Join us the London Rowing Club in Putney for an afternoon of drinking and cheering on your favourite boat.

Watch The 160th Boat Race with friends and enjoy a day out on the banks of the Thames. The history of the Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race (known simply as The Boat Race):

The idea for a rowing race between the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge came from two friends - Charles Merivale, a student at Cambridge, and his Harrow school friend Charles Wordsworth (nephew of the poet William Wordsworth), who was at Oxford. On 12 March 1829, Cambridge sent a challenge to Oxford and thus the tradition was born which has continued to the present day, where the loser of the previous year’s race challenges the opposition to a re-match.

The Modern Boat Race still runs along the same lines but has now become a major international sporting occasion drawing millions of viewers from around the world.

On Race Day up to 250,000 spectators crowd the banks of the Thames from Putney to Mortlake to witness the action.

Drinks at 5pm, Race begins at 6pm.

Cash bar or bring your own. We normally do a picnic, but this year's race is quite late, so instead it is focussed on HOT drinks and nibbles.

Meeting point: Meet Daria (with Princeton umbrella) outside of the London Rowing Club (LRC) located at Putney Embankment SW15 1LB.

Closest tube is Putney Bridge and rail is Putney.

The LRC is a short walk from Putney Bridge, directly at the start of the race, and there will be Pimm's and other drinks and food on sale. Everyone will be able to see the crews announced and walk out, line up, and start.

Rain will not deter us.

There is no cost to this event, but please do Register so that we know who to expect and how many.
