Chaucer Dinner with Prof Emeritus John Fleming, at the George Inn

Join us for an extraordinary dinner and conversation with Princeton’s highly-esteemed Emeritus Professor of English and Comparative Literature, John Fleming *63. He taught a legendary course on Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales. We will dine and learn at The George Inn, London's last remaining galleried coaching inn – directly adjacent to the site of the old Tabard Inn, where Chaucer's pilgrims started on their way to Canterbury.

For the evening, we are joining a Princeton Journeys group at the start of their 9-day “Great Libraries & Literature” excursion around England. PAUK registrations are strictly capped at 29 people. Come drink, eat, learn, meet, and enjoy!

The George Inn was already well-established during the reign of Henry VIII, and was rebuilt in 1677 after a fire that also destroyed the Tabard. The George itself was also frequented by Shakespeare and Dickens (who mentioned it in Little Dorrit). It’s a very short walk from the London Bridge Tube, in the heart of Southwark.

Time: Friday 15 June, 6:30 pm for 7pm

Location: The George Inn, 77 Borough High Street, London SE1 1NH

Registration: £45, including 3-course dinner plus open bar
