“Imagining Other Earths” virtual full-semester seminar with Princeton’s Chair of Astrophysics

Are we alone? Learn core concepts in astronomy, biology, chemistry, geology and physics; follow the search for other planets and other life; and invent your own planetary system. PAUK members have an extraordinary opportunity to take this full course with Professor David Spergel ‘82, Chair of Princeton’s Department of Astrophysical Sciences and a world leader in the field. The course was recently delivered as a popular Princeton Freshman Seminar, so it is both sophisticated and accessible.

PAUK will have 3 sessions in central London (with audiolink for those outside London), at which Prof Spergel himself will join us from Princeton via live video, discussing new developments in the field and answering our questions on his lectures. We will each view the lectures at our convenience (24 lectures, of approx 40 minutes each, spaced over 4 months), on the Coursera online course platform.

This marks a new frontier in alumni education, combining taped and live video to bring Princeton directly to the UK. Join us on this intellectual journey through space and cutting-edge science.

Date and time: Live video sessions with Prof Spergel on Tue 7 Mar, Tue 18 Apr, and Tue 23 May, at 6:30 pm. Lectures online.

Location: Live sessions in Mayfair, London W1; and by audiolink.

Registration: Participation is limited to 18 people, due to space constraints. Please register here to participate (lecture and live session details provided upon registration)
